A coach in the room, not a bar chart.
Chess Coach is a voice-first coach you play real games against. Ask it anything mid-game, hands-free — it answers out loud and shows every idea on the board as it speaks.

How it works
Play a real game
Full games against an engine that matches your level — not puzzles about someone else’s position.
Just ask — out loud
“Why was that a blunder?” “What’s my plan here?” Interrupt it mid-sentence like a real lesson. Typing works too.
Watch the idea, not the eval bar
The coach plays the line out in front of you — arrows and squares landing in sync with its words.
It tells you the truth
Honest coaching
It owns up when its own move was weak, and shows you the line it passed up. No pretending to be perfect.
Never a fake line
Every demonstration is checked against the real position before it’s shown. Wrong lines get rejected, not displayed.
For the player stuck at the same rating
You play every night. You run Game Review. You know +1.3 means you’re better — and you still don’t know what you did wrong. Chess Coach explains it the way a person would: while you look at the board, in plain speech, showing you the move it means.
Less than 20 minutes of a human coach's time, per month.
How it’s different
Silent, post-game, canned.
Talk, but never show you on the board.
$25–200 an hour — and you have to book them.
Talks with you mid-game and demonstrates while it explains.
Works best in Chrome or Edge on desktop and Android. On iPhone and iPad, voice input is limited by the browser — text chat works everywhere.
Free during beta. All of it.
Unlimited coached games, full voice and demonstrations, account sync — free while we’re in beta. When paid plans arrive, the free tier keeps the magic. Beta players get founding pricing ($49/yr, locked in).
Questions
Do I need an account?+
No — playing is free without one. An account syncs your games and feedback across devices.
Does it work on my phone?+
Text chat works everywhere. Voice input is best in Chrome or Edge on desktop and Android; on iPhone and iPad the browser limits voice input today.
Is it just Stockfish talking?+
No — a coaching model does the talking, and a separate validation layer checks every claim against the real position before it’s shown.
How strong is the opponent?+
You pick a level that matches yours. You play full games, not puzzles about someone else’s position.
What does it cost?+
Free during beta — all of it. When paid plans arrive the free tier keeps the magic.
Can kids use it?+
It’s built for adults today. A family plan is on the roadmap.
